First Aid at Work [Refresher Course]

The full Health & Safety at Work First Aid course can be covered in 4 days either consecutive or 1 day a week for 4 weeks.  All persons passing the course will receive a First Aid at Work Certificate valid for 3 years.  At the end of the course candidates will be competent in the following:

• Resuscitation
• Shock
• Bleeding
• Unconsciousness
• First Aid Boxes
• Transporting Casualties
• Bones, Muscles & Joints
• Minor Injuries
• Burns & Scalds
• Eye Injuries
• Poisons
• Record Keeping
• Hygiene
• Communication in an Emergency and Major Injuries

Introduction

A course for qualified First Aiders to update their practical skills and knowledge leading to a certificate renewal for a further three years.

Aims

This will prepare delegates to give immediate assistance and treatment to some injured or suddenly taken ill before the arrival of the ambulance, doctor or other professional qualified person.

Key Outcomes

• Take decisive action in an emergency situation
• Diagnose a casualty
• Categorise casualties effectively
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Have knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities of all first aiders responsibilities at work.

Content

• Assess and prioritise a first aid incident
• Deal with an unconscious casualty
• Carry out resuscitation (CPR)
• Control bleeding and manage shock
• Recognise and deal with a broad range of common injuries until the arrival of medical care
• Maintain records
• Use and maintain first aid kits

Qualified First Aiders looking to update and revalidate their Full First Aid at Work Certificate.
